The nanotechnology activities have been grown rapidly since the U.S. National Nanotehnology initiated in 2000. Among the major research institutes, the California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI) is the key role that was formed jointly by the University of California at Santa Barbara and University of California at Los Angeles. At present, the research of CNSI focuses on building Blocks, analysis and imaging, modeling / simulation/ data mining and visualization, nanosystems for molecular medicine, nanosystems for IT and so on. The nanotechnology activity at the University California, Berkeley includes three nano-engineering groups, namely, Nano-Thermal, Nano-Bio and Nano-optics. Their research is likely to have impact on nanotechnology in energy, biotechnology, materials integration and assembly, instrumentation, and information storage/processing.

Complying with the National Nanotechnology Program to be started in 2003 in Taiwan, National Taiwan University formed "The Center for Nano Science and Technology" (CNST) in early 2002. We focuses on establishment of both the inter-disciplinary teaching program and the integrated research projects under NTU-CNST. To effectively enhance the education and research achievement, collaboration between various specialty laboratories is primarily emphasized to reach the world first class standard. The NTU-CNST organization chart as shown in Figure 1 and its frame work as shown in Figure 2 illustrate the strategy for multi-discipline personnel training, integrated research activities and collaboration among NTU-internal groups and external organizations.

A total of four research projects under the integrated research is shown in Figure 1. Under the inter-disciplinary teaching program (Figure 1), a total of 3 teaching curriculum will be developed. Among which, the nano-engineering curriculum was started in Feb. 2002. A total of 92 students was admitted to join the program.
